Humans of Lifeline — Project Manager – Lifeline Australia

“Since working for Lifeline, I feel more connected to my fellow human beings “

What do you do for self-care?

I see my self-care in blocks. There's my mind, my emotions, my body and my spirit. Sometimes my self-care is simple things like getting a massage, which is great, but if I'm not caring for the underlying emotions behind whatever I am moving through, the effects don't last long.

I was doing Brazilian Jujitsu when I moved to Manly. I would get in the car, drive past the beautiful beach, go into the studio that didn't have the aircon and start sweating up to my eyeballs. So, I was like, "this isn't the time for this".

So instead, I took up scuba diving, snorkeling, and beach volleyball. I'm not sporty, but it's been an excellent way to meet people.

Sun, music, banter, exercise, endorphins, so good! It's been a case of "out of the dojo and onto the beach", like choosing your racing track on Mario Kart.

Whatever the practice or activity, for me, it is the communities I get to meet and the act of challenging myself in something new that is exciting, and really special.

Since working for Lifeline, I feel more connected to my fellow human beings. That's likely due to my incredible colleagues and friends and my meditation practice. As I dive deeper into my internal world, I can hold space for and love all the different parts of myself, and from there I have so much more love for other people. That's where the judgement and shame can disappear, and I move into connection and service.
